Once again, I would like to thank a couple of people for their assistance with this article. The first is obviously Shanik. I am lucky to know Shanik via a family connection. My grandmother lives in Cotacachi, which is very close to Quiroga, and Shanik's mother Miriam helps take care of my grandmother. I would also like to thank my transcribers for this article: Clara Pincay, Angie Montilla, Jennifer Paulina Collay, Denise Chango and Josette Monge.
Shanik: "For breakfast I usually have a scrambled egg and bread with coffee or black tea. For lunch, often I have chicken and rice with salad, and for dinner I have the same."
Shanik: "My house is big, spacious and very beautiful. I live there with my little brother and my mom. My favorite part of the house is the kitchen or my room."
Shanik: "I help my mom wash the dishes, feed our animals and sometimes clean the bathrooms. I help fold the clothes and take them out of the washing machine. When my mom goes to work, I'm the one who helps clean the house, and when she comes home I help her unpack."
