The scenery outside didn’t change at all just because we crossed an imaginary line. There aren’t many people who travel north of the Arctic Circle, so it’s a unique experience. At the end of this expedition, we will all receive a certificate that says we have crossed the Arctic Circle. I’m looking forward to hanging it up at home next to my Antarctic Service Medal certificate.

Other Travel News from this week:

How many hours of school do you have every day? What is something that makes each day special for you? Living on a ship can feel very different than regular life back on land. One big difference is we don’t have days off. Onboard the JOIDES Resolution, the ship operates 24 hours a day. Scientists and crew work in 12-hour shifts, 7 days a week. In some ways, every day feels the same because we work every day, eat at the same times every day, and there are no days off.

How is that exciting? Have you heard the saying, “the little things in life are actually the big things”? This becomes very true when you’re at sea for two months, away from your regular life. What is a little thing that you enjoyed this week?
