Our News

(I couldn't take videos because it wasn't allowed, but you can watch some recaps here when they are released: https://www.asbpolyfest.co.nz/p/92672-replays.) I am always amazed and awed by how much talent these young people have!

On my own, I like to listen to Hawaiian music, like the Brothers Cazimero and George Helm, and indie-pop-folk music, like Simon and Garfunkel, while I walk to class or events or while riding the bus or train. Recently, I have been really into the Studio Ghibli soundtracks when I am working and need to be able to concentrate. When I exercise, I like to listen to the Chainsmokers, Halsey, Train, Bruno Mars, and other pop artists from the 2010s (when I was a kid!) What music do you all like to listen to?

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I live right next to the Auckland City Central Library, and the library has a very small theater where they show retro films and sometimes new releases, too. On Wednesday, they have a special deal where tickets are only $5! (And that's New Zealand dollars! How much would that be in U.S. dollars?) I went with my Fulbright friends to see a new movie called Tinā, which is about a Sāmoan woman in Christchurch, a city on Te-Waka-a-Maui (the South Island), who is a choir teacher. It was an amazing movie, but quite sad, and I was especially sad because I sang in a choir in college and I really miss it! Do any of you like to sing?

I also went to my friend's one-year Ph.D presentation this week. He is a wood carver, and one of his carvings is featured in the new train station that is being built! When the train station is done, I will definitely go take a picture so you can all see.
