This week, the most fun activity was attending a soccer tournament with the local soccer team. The soccer tournaments last all day, and teams from different communitites in the local area come together to compete.
This week, I am reading the book Pride and Prejudice.
For fun, I like to play soccer with the local team. It is very uncommon in rural areas for girls to play soccer, so the only team they have is an all men's team. However, the boys are very welcoming and excited to have anyone who wants to play. They always ask me to join them during their practice! Some girls play soccer as well, but unfortunately, there are not enough of them to create a team. You will usually find a lot of girls playing a sport called netball (similar to basketball but without a back board).
The local high school had a celebration for the end of the school year! The school year in South Africa starts in January and ends in December. At this celebration, the school honored the students with the highest grades and wished the 12th grade students "farewell" on their next step after graduating high school.
