What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language spoken in London is English, though it's far from a single, uniform sound. The British accent itself comes in countless variations: a crisp pronunciation in some parts of the city, a warm East London twang in others and everything in between. To an American ear, even everyday British English can sound refreshingly distinct.

But London is one of the most linguistically diverse cities in the world, and English is really just the starting point. French, in particular, has a strong presence, not surprising given how close the city is to France and how large the French expat community in London has grown over the years. Sit on a bus or stand on a Tube platform during the evening commute, and you're quite likely to catch a conversation in French drifting past, a small but charming reminder of just how international this city truly is.

It's one of the things that makes simply moving around London so quietly fascinating because you never quite know what you're going to overhear.
