My host mom also cooks pork ribs into the soup, but we normally eat those afterward.
This week I've been listening to a lot of music by Shakira. Most of you probably know her song "Hips Don't Lie," but she has many other amazing songs too. One thing I love about her music in Spanish is that it is easy to understand her lyrics. It also makes me want to get up and dance. Although Shakira is Colombian, most people in Spain are familiar with her music because it is played on the radio.
The most fun activity I participated in this week was going to an aquapark in Latvia. This is essentially a water park like in the United States, but with a spa attached. I went with one of my friends from the summer camp that I work at and we had a great time. My favorite part were the hot tubs and saunas.
This week I've been reading a book called Cien Años de Soledad. This is an incredibly famous piece of Colombian literature that tells the story of a family across several generations. This book was not written by a Spanish author but it is hailed as a classic in classrooms across Spain. While we were reading Hamlet and The Catcher and the Rye, other people our age across the Atlantic were reading this novel. It can be hard to focus on reading in Spanish, but the more I do it, the easier it becomes.
