I had only ever thought of pumpkins for Halloween, but I am glad I tried the dish because it was absolutely delicious!
For the past week, I have been mainly listening to my music from home. It comforts me to experience a little piece of home when I listen to my favorite songs while working or walking around Lyon.
My favorite activity this week was when my host family took me and another Dartmouth student on a walking tour of Lyon. We were outside in the cold for about three hours, so my feet hurt so badly by the end! However, I enjoyed seeing the city in person for the first time and listening to my host family's recommendations for food, clothes, museums and activities!
On the plane ride here, I finished a book about elderly patient care, and after arriving, I started another book about the progress of humanity in the future. In addition to the books, I have been reading an article or two a day in the French newspaper called "Le Monde" (in English, The World) to help me improve my language skills.
While I personnally did not play too many outdoor sports, one memorable "game" actually involved eating! No wonder I liked it so much, haha. My host family, their friends and I shared a giant pastry with a sweet lemon filling and a flaky croissant exterior. Hidden inside the cake was a small moon toy. Whoever got the toy in their slice got to wear a special crown. Turns out the moon toy was in the very last slice, and we ended up eating the entire cake just to find it!
