The main language spoken in England is English. The second-most-spoken language in the nation is Polish. There are also a lot of people who live here who are bi- or multi-lingual. You don't have to go far in London to meet someone who speaks a different language!
In London, we use the British pound. Fractions of a pound are called pence. Pence are like cents in the U.S. Right now one pound is equivalent to 1.22 U.S. dollars. This may sound pretty close, but the difference really adds up. For example, 200 pounds would be about 244 U.S. dollars. This has made it easy for me to feel like I'm not spending that much money, but I am able to stay on top of my finances with a currency calculator I keep on my cell phone.
A bottle of water costs about one pound. The tap water here is fine, so I rarely ever buy bottled water. As long as I'm carrying around my reusable water bottle every day, I manage to stay hydrated just fine.
The best meal I had this week happened last Sunday while visiting the University of Oxford's campus. My friends and I stopped into this place called Vaults & Garden. I had chicken fricassee with roasted potatoes and broccoli. For dessert, I had a scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam.
