Doctors in China

Introduction:

Wang Ai Ping just turned 40 years old this year, and she has been working in a local hospital as a pediatrician practicing internal medicine. She occupies the rest of her day with making dinner for her husband and two kids, both of whom are in middle school. I learned that doctors in China do not make enormous amounts of money like in the United States, which might speak to the dedication of doctors here to truly help their patients. I was lucky enough to conduct the brief interview on her day off. Afterwards, I took a quick trip to the medical university that she attended (it's right next to mine, about five minutes away!) Note: Interview was translated from Chinese.

What is your full name?:

My name is Wang Ai Ping, or 王爱平 which translates to "The King Loves Peace". Many of my western friends call me Apple because it sounds very similar to my Chinese name.

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

I live in the Wenjiang District of Chengdu city. Because Chengdu is such a big city and the population is so large, not many people own houses. Instead, most people live in apartment buildings such as myself. It's very nice to live in an apartment building, because you have so many neighbors and you never feel unsafe.

What is your family like?:

I think that I have a typical Chinese family.
