The Penultimate Expedition of JOIDES Resolution

For the most part, we have achieved our scientific goals of collecting serpentinized peridotite (mantle rock) and continental ocean transition material. Some scientists did not get to collect what they came out here to sample. This is, of course, unfortunate for their research, but there is a way for them to use what they collected for their projects.

As we end Expedition 402, we look to the next few months of what the JR will be up to. We have a JR Academy cruise, where undergraduates will get to study on the ship. We have the School of Rock, where teachers will get to stay for a few nights as they build educational materials. Lastly, we have Expedition 403 which sails from Amsterdam to Norway! One favor we ask is to keep talking about the JR and its adventures to carry on its legacy of uncovering Earth's secrets.

We get off on April 8th and have already planned a lunch and dinner for the crew to participate in. Some people have family and partners visiting, so it will be an even bigger group to hang out with. But the more the merrier! Everyone is looking forward to pizza, pasta, and some fresh fruit after long months of hard work on the JR.
