Mexican wrestling was invented in the late 19th century when Mexican wrestlers adapted Greek and Roman wrestling to the unique culture of Mexico. As Lucha Libre spread in popularity throughout the continent, it became an important form of family entertainment and a proud, vital part of Mexican culture. Today, Lucha Libre is known and loved world-wide and has become a favorite sport in popular culture!
As I mentioned before, the masks often pay homage to Mexico's Aztec heritage and sometime depict scenes of animals that are native to Mexico.
