At an individual level, herders do what they can to make sure that they have good ratios of goats to sheep and cows, to not overgraze animals on land in danger of turning into desert and to be careful of how much water they use. In traditional Mongolian shamanism, the land and sky are important, sacred parts of life and it’s important to take care of it. It can be difficult, but people still have hope, despite facing hard decisions about how they can live and use land responsibly.
