Get Ready To Move Your Feet!

Introduction:

Transportation in Spain is a little bit different compared to what we might be used to in the United States, or at least different than what I am used to in the Chicago suburbs. Look down at your feet. This is how most people get around in Spain: by walking! I walk almost everywhere in Logroño, including the bank, the grocery store, the library and restaurants when I meet my friends for dinner. If you walk down the street, especially around 8pm, you can find so many people walking around the town. At home, I am used to driving everywhere. I typically drive to the bank, the grocery store, the library and every restaurant because they are too far to walk to.

How do people get around?:

Although most places are close, I do take the public bus to school because it would take me 45 minutes to walk there. I wake up at 7:30am every day, and walk to catch the bus at 8:30am. I have a bus pass that I use and it costs $0.52 every time I ride the bus. The bus is the second most common form of transportation in Logroño. Many locals who do not walk choose to ride the bus to and from their work. Some of my students ride the bus to school with me too! Sometimes the bus is so crowded that I have to stand because there are no seats left! I am always holding on tight.

There are also cars in Spain, however the cars tend to be much smaller than the cars that we see in the United States.
