What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done? One of my favorite quotes ever is from the movie Up: "Adventure is out there." My sister came to visit me during our winter vacation, and as an adventurer herself, we agreed to go to San Gil (Sahn - Heel) to go ... bungee jumping!
San Gil is home to the tallest bungee jumping platform in South America at about 460 feet! Nearby, you can zipline across canyons, hike through caves, white water raft through its rivers, climb up some of its waterfalls and more! Thousands of people visit San Gil every year to take part in these adventures. San Gil is also home to 50,000 people, including Daniela, my friend who is a doctor who you all met from my trip to Zapatoca. It has hills, like Bucaramanga, but it's hotter than it is here. It also has the best arepas with chicken that I have ever tasted in my life!
We woke up at 4:30 a.m. to catch the bus at 5:30 a.m. to go to San Gil. The bus ride is filled with curves because you travel through the mountains, and many people throw up throughout the journey. It is very normal to yell "bolsa!" (which means "bag!") and the driver will pass one back because people get sick. Thankfully, my sister and I do not get motion sickness easily and we were okay.
We got to San Gil at 8:30 a.m., and that is when the adventure started!
