To Be a Kid in Bucaramanga: Through the Eyes of Mariana and Valeria

We also speak English in our English classes that we have every day! To say "Hello" in our language, we usually say "Hola, como estas?" or "Hola, como vas? Que más?" or "Hola, como te encuentras?" That is the way that we start a conversation with another person.

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Common names are Laura, Sofia, David, Ana Maria, Alejandra, Daniel, Nicolas, Juan, Santiago, Maria, Valentina, Isabella, Andrés, Daniela, Paula, and Mariana and Valeria!

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

We study Physics, Chemistry, English grammar, English conversation, World Religion, Ethics, Philosophy, Geometry, Citizenship, History, PE and Spanish. We have 13 different classes in total.

What is your homework like?:

There is a rule at our school that homework is not allowed! This is not with all schools in Colombia, but ours started this rule recently.

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

We both dance ballet! We have been dancing ballet for our whole lives.

Who is your favorite famous person?:

Our favorite famous person is Rene. He is a singer of alternative music. He was in the band Calle 13, but he went solo.

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

We listen to EVERYTHING! Vallenato is a type of popular music here, so is Cumbia, and we don't really like that.

What would you like to be when you grow up?:

I [Mariana] would like to work in research with something in chemical engineering, or another type of engineering maybe.
