Traveler Bio

Hi there! My name is Rachel. I am a writer who studies poems and plays written by Germans from over two hundred years ago. I am delighted that you will be joining me as I explore Leipzig, a small town in Germany. To get there from the U.S., you fly on a plane for seven hours, then ride a train for another three hours.

My hometown is Vancouver, Canada. Growing up around forests, lakes and the ocean has made me very excited to explore the nature surrounding Leipzig. Some of Germany’s greatest artists loved the outdoors so much that they would write entire poems and symphonies about how they felt on an early morning walk, or what it was like to witness a thunderstorm from underneath a linden tree.

As a doctoral student at the University of Chicago, I am fortunate to be spending the 2023-24 year on a Fulbright Research Grant in Germany. While conducting research at the University of Leipzig, I will be taking every opportunity to discover the city’s hidden gems. I am thrilled to be sharing my adventures with you all and can’t wait to start our journey together!
