I listen to music, read books, eat a snack or a meal, or even put on makeup while I’m on my way to meet my friends! If you bring your laptop or a paper to read from work, you can even get work done. I also love taking the trains because I know it is much better for the environment than if everyone were to take their individual cars. So many people can be transported at once by train, and this decreases how much gas we use and how much pollution we put into our air. When I return to the U.S.A. I will try to encourage the development of intercity trains because they improve everyone's lives and the environment.
The popularity of intercity trains definitely shows how Dutch people are aware of their impact on the environment. For example, the government gives money to people to take the train to work because they want to encourage environmentally friendly transportation instead of everyone taking their cars. The popularity of bikes also makes it easier to use the trains, since people just bike to the station and can easily park their bikes in underground or aboveground free bike parking stations. If everyone drove to the train station, there would probably not be enough room for everyone to park for free.
