Traveler Bio

Konnichiha (kon-nee-chee-wah)! Hello! My name is Raimel, but you can call me Ray. I'm currently living in Tokyo, Japan. I'm part of a group of researchers at Waseda University who are investigating global issues together with a cohort of students from American and Japanese universities. I'm also studying Japanese and exploring Japanese culture.

I'm originally from Cuba, and I immigrated to the U.S. when I was in high school. I lived in the states of Florida and California and went to school in the Bay Area of California at UC Berkeley. I lived in Brazil for one year during my senior year of high school. Because I loved this experience, I wanted to study abroad again. And now here I am in Japan! I love to read philosophy and mysteries, go to museums, and do outdoors activities like camping and hiking. I also love to swim and to do yoga.

One of my favorite hobbies is to learn languages because languages open the doors to communicating with many different people and they help me better understand other people through their own worldviews. I also love to explore the city and the culture that surrounds me when I'm at a new place, to which I invite you to tag along for these few weeks! Let's explore!
