Comida de Costa Rica

Introduction:

One universal love language is food. This is especially apparent with the way my host mom cooks. She always puts so much love and care into each dish I am served. When exploring different cultures I feel like food is the best way to dip your foot in. This is a simple yet effective way of immersing yourself into a new culture. I live with a host family so the majority of the food I eat is cooked for me by my host mother. I do my part in setting the table and washing the dishes but I definitely am not talented enough to cook these delicious dishes. At my house I have been able to try so many traditional meals that I have fallen in love with. I also really appreciate the routine of food here, I will always eat breakfast, lunch and dinner which keeps me full throughout the day. A lot of the food in general here reminds me of my Mom’s cooking. She is from Puerto Rico and uses similar flavors which might be why I love it so much!

What food did I try?:

My host mom has cooked me so many different classic Costa Rican dishes during my time here. I will be picking only two of my favorite dishes to share about here, but there are so many it was hard to only pick a few. The first dish I will discuss is the chancleta which has two meanings, one is a shoe and the other is this delicious dish.
