I genuinely believe that the past three months have been some of the best in my entire life. At first, I was really nervous to start this journey. I came from a rural town and had never traveled alone for over a week, especially abroad.
Everyone says that the best things in life come when you least expect it. I really didn't expect myself to fall in love with the people, the country and the culture but it turns out I did. I wouldn't trade this opportunity for the world and I'm so glad I get to share my experience with an audience to hopefully inspire others to try to travel while in school. This trip really taught me simple living, and the basics of relationships and that people are all you need to be happy in life.
I am also extremely proud of myself for going out of my comfort zone and putting myself out there to learn Spanish. I kept Google Translate open at the dinner table for the first week because it was so difficult to communicate. By the end of this journey, I was able to tell jokes and really express my thoughts all by myself, which I am quite proud of. I was even able to call and speak to my Spanish-speaking family back home in Spanish and everyone was so shocked to hear my improvement.
