Some Rwandan artists are Chriss Eazy, Bruce Melody, Kenny Sol, Kivumbi King and Bwiza. Diomond Platnumz is an artist from Tanzania that we like. We also listen to Davido and Burna Boy, who are artists from Nigeria. When we went to the basketball match in my friend's village, they were playing Justin Timberlake, Becky G, 50 Cent and Jay Sean, which was fun!
I had fun visiting my friend Gedeon with my friend Sam. Gedeon lives in a village about a 45 minutes drive from where I live. Sam and I met up in a town called Riziere and then took a 20 minute bus ride to Gedeon's village. We hung out and cooked, and then we went to a basketball match. Gedeon's house is a five minute walk from the community basketball court. His local health center partnered with the youth community leaders to put on an event to support girl's empowerment. Female students from the local schools read poems and did skits about girls having choices and being in charge of their lives. There were also girls' basketball teams that played. The health center was giving away free STD testing for anyone in the community and then the health workers gave a pad demonstration during half-time of the basketball game. It was really cool to see the community coming together for such a good cause.
I read 255 exams from my TTC students and two books. One is called Forgiving What You Can't Forget, by Lysa Terkeurst, and the other is called Midnight Children, by Dan Gemeinhart. If you haven't read Midnight Children yet, I would recommend it. I used to babysit before I moved to Rwanda for some family friends of mine.
