Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I traveled 26 kilometers, or about 16 miles to Gedeon's village.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

It would take me hours to calculate how far I've traveled in the past 22 months, so I am going to share the farthest I have traveled in each direction of the country. The farthest west I have gone is to Lake Kivou. It sits on the border of DRC and Rwanda. It is a beautiful lake, and there are no alligators, crocodiles or hippos in the water, only fish and cows. Cows learn to swim to different islands so they can graze on the grass. The farthest north I have traveled is to a place called Byumba in Gicumbi District. It is very cold there compared to the rest of the country. The temperature never got above 65 degrees Fahrenheit while I was there, and it was below 50 degrees Fahrenheit during the night. The farthest south I have gone is to a town called Huye or Butare. We had a training for Peace Corps in Huye for about two weeks. The farthest sast I have traveled is to Akagera National Park. Akagera sits on the border of Tanzania and Rwanda. You can see giraffes, zebras, lions, hippos and many other species. It is truly beautiful, and I recommend going to Akagera if you come to Rwanda.

How did I get around this week?:

I traveled by walking and by bus.
