At first, I was not good at remembering to use what I now call my "train voice." I paid close attention to the Koreans on the train and how they spoke, and then I adjusted my tone to be lower than theirs. My study abroad counselor advised me that foreign languages sound louder to locals. Over time I adjusted my "train voice" and became a pro at commuting via the train. I was so comfortable with my "train voice" and with communting in general that I found myself bothered by those who did not conform to the unspoken rule. "Tone it down, and be courteous!" Over the course of my time in Seoul, I adopted this new perspective, and it became my own.
