We have been able to provide new insights into questions that have gone unanswered since the 1980’s.
Before I graduated, I won a Fulbright Award, which is a scholarship for me to conduct research abroad. I’m currently doing research in particle physics, which was inspired by the work I did with Mr. Wood at Irondale. The Fulbright application process is very long. I had to write a proposal, find a mentor abroad and pass two rounds of review. I chose to study in Italy specifically because I am half Italian and studied the language at Cornell. This was my first time travelling abroad alone, so I was initially very nervous. I felt like my Italian wasn’t sufficient to communicate, but I started remembering words that I thought I had forgotten. I am also taking an advanced Italian course here, which has helped a lot.
Since arriving in Italy, I have experienced a bit of a culture shock, from how Italians dress, to superstitions they have, to their views on food (which are extremely strong!). It has been fun meeting new people and learning about different cultures.
