Riding the Bus in Patagonia

The comfiest option, the ejecutivo, gives you a chair that leans all of the way back to form a sort of bed where you can sleep (or try to sleep!) during the trip.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I don’t like being cooped up in a car or bus for a long period of time. I start to get very antsy and want to move around, and it is hard for me to sleep because the buses are so rattly! I make sure to always pack my headphones and a book to read to keep myself entertained. The buses are also kept very cold, so it’s a good idea to bring extra layers to wear. Buses stop at gas stations every few hours, so you can get out to stretch your legs and buy snacks. Overnight buses usually serve dinner, just like you might get on a plane.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Riding the bus definitely gives you a more immersive experience than flying on an airplane. Patagonia has so many interesting landscapes, and watching the scenery out the window is my favorite part of riding the bus! On a recent bus trip to Bariloche, I watched the landscape change between arid plains, towering mountains, and glistening lakes. On another bus trip to visit Los Alerces National Park, I spotted a rainbow outside the window. I make sure to always get a window seat so I don’t miss anything!
