What does a typical Colombian kid eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are very different from the meals we have in the U.S. For breakfast, Colombian children have access to lots of different kinds of fruits that don't necessarily make it to the U.S. In Bogotá, kids can munch on fresh plantain, pineapple, guava and more. In contrast, kids from the Amazons have access to fruits that are specific to that area. For example, Acai berry is a very expensive berry found in smoothies in the United States. However, in the Amazons, there's a surplus of it! People regularly have Acai juice: a creamy, delicious beverage.
Lunch is completely different in Colombia than the U.S. While dinner tends to be the biggest meal in the U.S., in contrast, lunch is the most important meal in Colombia. In fact, most restaurants are only open for lunch! Since it's often chilly and rainy in Bogotá, people usually start lunch with soup. A crowd favorite is a thick, creamy soup called, "Ajiáco," that includes chicken, corn, avocado, and a creamy broth. After the appetizer of soup, folks from Bogotá will move onto a larger dish that usually includes a meat and rice.
