It's hard to believe that for the past nine months I've been living in a country that I hardly knew anything about before arriving! And yet, after all of that time, I feel like I know Colombia better than I know the United States. I've been to both of the coasts, practically every corner of the country, and can even tell the different Spanish accents. That said, I still recognize the fact that I will only be here for about another month, so I can't really be too connected to the place, can I? To truly answer that question, it is worth zooming in on the neighborhood and city that I've grown to call home, both of which continue to keep me on my toes with new experiences.

In the community that I live in, Barrio Pablo VI, I continue to be surprised by the culturally interesting and spontaneous community events that occur regularly. Back in February, I remember hearing beautiful, live Salsa and Cumbia music floating through my apartment window from somewhere nearby. I went to investigate and found a lovely little concert set up in the main square. While it was mostly families and older folks out listening, the band had a smoking horn section, and the lead singer could really dance! I couldn't have been more impressed.
