It also reminds the country of the importance of fighting for democracy, especially in the past 50 years.
In my opinion, the community has the need for Bolívar squares for reasons having to do with its history. Over the past 50 years, Colombia has faced waves of violence that many countries never experienced! Columbia has experienced violence related to drugs and cartels, or gangs, as well as guerrilla army groups who kidnapped citizens in the country, and terrorized many villages. This violence many parts of Colombia very unsafe. The Bolívar squares remind Colombians how far they've come as a nation in fighting for what is right, and how far the country will go!
The need to remember history in order to make today better is being met each day in Colombia. For example, at a speech in Plaza Bolívar, Bogotá, a member from the FARC, a guerrilla army group, spoke about the need for peace and to move on as a country. Listening to this speach with the statue of Simón Bolívar not far away made me realize the continuous developments of this great country!
