Bienvenidos a Perú! (Welcome to Perú) My name is Rowan Lull, and I am a Peace Corps volunteer living in the Andes Mountains of Perú. Some of you might recognize me, I used to be a substitute teacher at Emma Wilson Elementary!
You might be asking yourself: what's the Peace Corps? Well, It is aU.S. government program that sends volunteers like me, around the world to work on important community projects. My project is Community Economic Development, and I work with women in my community as well as students just like you!
My life in Perú is much different than it was in California. Everyone here speaks Spanish, and the culture, food, and lifestyle are all new to me. I live with a host family (a local family that welcomes me into their home), and they are very kind. My favorite thing about my host family is that they have a chacra (farm), and a kitten named fluffy. I’m excited to show them to you!
Living far away from home is challenging, but it’s also incredibly exciting. I love hiking in the mountains, trying new fruit, and learning something new every day. I’ll be here for the next two years, and I am so excited to share my adventures with you!
Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
