The Combi - Peru's Most used Transportation!

Introduction:

In this week's field note, I am going to talk about how we get around in Peru, and share some photos of the transportation that we take almost every day!

How do people get around?:

In Peru, lots of people do not have a car, which means that they need to use other vehicles to get around! When they are not walking, a lot of people ride motorcycles, but most people take a combi (Comb-bee), which is a big van or bus that people share! It is similar to a school bus, but smaller!

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

The first time I got on a combi, I felt very cramped. The driver drives very fast, and sometimes people fall over. When it is really busy, there is nowhere to sit down, and everyone has to stand up inside of the combi! Once you get used to riding a combi, it becomes a fun activity.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Using a combi is connected to the culture of Peru. Public transportation by bus, combi, van, or train is very popular, and lots of people take a combi every day to go to work.
