My native language is English, but I've also been around Spanish from conversations with my family and I'm currently speaking Spanish here in Costa Rica as well.
In Costa Rica, my host siblings have dogs that occasionally come to visit, so I have those as "pets." But back in New York, I only have a turtle, which has been with us for more than 10 years.
The only other place I've visited besides Costa Rica is the Dominican Republic, but that was over a decade ago. At the time, I was about 10 or 11 years old so I don't remember much of the trip, but from what I do remember, I did enjoy myself. We stayed at an old aunt's house and traveled around the city, Santo Domingo. I definitely need to do it again.
I used to work in a frozen yogurt shop back in high school and in my first year of college, but now I'm just focusing on my studies and looking/applying for internships this upcoming summer.
Whenever you're in another environment, please engage in new or fun activities with the friends you have, despite worrying about how much money you spend. Remember, money comes back to you, time doesn't. I try to remind myself of that as I travel and do new things with friends. I know I will look back and be grateful for all that I've done.
