Community Overview

Why does the community have this need?:

Due to their existing poverty or low incomes, many street vendors hope to earn money using their skills by selling their work and art. It's very admirable to see Costa Ricans earning a living this way, but ultimately it isn't enough to survive. This leads to working multiple jobs or having all family members work as well. It is possible that, with some street vendors, the families are stable and this work is just another source of income. But, more likely, the reason for doing this work is the need to earn more money to survive. It can be a challenge for Costa Ricans to make enough money to survive, and this has created a need in the community for better support (like a government assistance program).

Is this need being met? How?:

I believe this need is being met in some aspects of life; for example, ticos have universal healthcare, access to free education and a guaranteed state pension. However, I wonder what happens if citizens cannot find work or aren't able to work. I hope to explore more of what the state provides, as these questions arise for me. I believe that healthcare for all is a great resource, and I hope everyone is getting an education and taking advantage of their access to free education.
