Hola! Hello! my name is Sabrina. I am 24 years old and I am from Queens, New York. My favorite thing about New York is enjoying a slice of pizza while gazing at skyscrapers. I’ve lived in New York my entire life. I attended Pace University, where I studied communication sciences and disorders, which is a fancy way of saying speech therapy.
Once I graduated, I started working for a wonderful program called The Video Interaction Project. As a parent-child counselor for this program, I met with parents during their baby’s pediatric visit and spoke about how talking, reading and playing helps development. Many of the families I worked with were from Ecuador, and they inspired me to apply for a Fulbright English Teaching Award.
Fortunately, I was awarded this Fellowship, and I now find myself teaching English at the municipal Colegio (high school) in Alangasí, Ecuador. Additionally, I am volunteering at a center for children and adolescents with disabilities. I get to work alongside a speech therapist and learn new therapy techniques. Off the job, I am lucky enough to explore what this beautiful country has to offer.
I am looking forward to sharing my experiences with you all and can’t wait to hear all your stories!
