North Indian food is known for its rich flavors and spices, like cumin, coriander and turmeric. Many dishes are creamy and include ingredients like yogurt, butter and paneer. Paneer is similar to cottage cheese, but it is made in big blocks that you can cut up and add to food. Popular foods from North India include naan (a soft, flat bread), many varieties of chicken in curry and spicy chickpeas called chole.
In New Delhi, food is bursting with flavors, and there are many tasty street foods to try. Chaat is a popular snack that’s crispy, tangy and sometimes spicy. Another favorite is paratha, a warm flatbread often stuffed with potatoes or veggies. You can also find lots of lentil dishes, like dal, which people eat with rice or bread. Dal is one of my favorites.
On other travels in India, I have eaten foods like dosa, which is a thin, crispy, crepe-like food from South India made from a batter of rice and lentils. Dosas are often filled with spiced potatoes and served with tasty dips, like coconut chutney and sambar, a spicy lentil soup.
My roommate Sezin and I also cook at home often! Sezin is a very good chef and knows how to make so many different dishes, especially Turkish cuisine.
