Vikrams and Autos

At night the vikrams have blue and pink lights attached to the ceiling so passengers can see.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

The first time I took the vikram, I was so nervous! To be honest, I wasn't completely sure if I was going in the right direction, so I watched where other people were getting off and followed their lead. I always feel a little squished when I take the vikram, but at the same time, I love the convenience of it. The average price of one ride is only 5 rupees (.08 US dollars).

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Once I took a vikram and a man brought a 30 lb. bag of rice with him and we still managed to squeeze seven people in. The other day I took the vikram at 8:00 AM and the driver was blasting electronic dance remixes. Another time, I waited for 20 minutes to catch a vikram because all of the ones that passed by me were full. These experiences are related to the local culture because they show the pace of life in Dehradun. People are used to being squished into small spaces and oftentimes the day is so busy and hectic that there are just not enough vikrams to accommodate everyone. Loud music can be found at all hours of the day in Dehradun, and the vikram is no exception.
