Oktoberfest

There are many places in the United States that will throw small Oktoberfest-themed celebrations, too. Today, it is not so much about celebrating the wedding anniversary of Ludwig and Theresa, but about celebrating German heritage and culture.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

Theresienwiese, the field where Oktoberfest is held, is named after Princess Theresa herself. With 6 million visitors every year, it is hard job keeping Theresienwiese clean every year!

There are nearly 1,000 tons of trash that need to be cleaned up each year. Every morning of Oktoberfest, cleaning trucks come to take the trash away and spray down the streets.

The tents need a lot of energy to keep running during the day, too. Oktoberfest uses so much energy in such a short time that it amounts to 13% of the entire city's electricity usage! Luckily, most of energy used is renewable, which helps keep pollution levels low.
