Last weekend, I took a day trip to one of my favorite cities in Germany, Cologne! This city is known for many things, especiallly the Kölner Dom, which is both Germany's largest cathedral and most-visited tourist attraction. Aside from visiting the Dom and walking along the Rhine River, I had one important goal in mind, which was to get a taste of one of my very favorite German dishes. I can't think of any other meal that I would travel four hours to eat! What delicious dish could this possibly be? Read on to find out!
This dish is called Himmel und Erde, which means heaven and earth. In the dialect of Cologne, it is called Himmel un Ääd. It consists of fried onions, mashed potatoes, apple compote and black pudding. Black pudding is a black sausage that contains pork and dried pig's blood. Don't worry, it sounds really gross, but tastes amazing! Himmel und Erde is a pretty weird combination of foods, but it tastes so good all together!
