Feeling at Home a World Away

I know how to take the tram and bus to school, and grocery shopping isn't as stressful as it was before. I'm even getting better with my German, too!

There are still some days where I have Heimweh, or homesickness. It's hard living in a country that doesn't have some of my favorite foods or sell books in my native language. I miss my family and friends lots, too. Despite this, I find ways to feel at home in Austria. I've found new foods that I can't easily find at home, including a flower-covered cheese called "Alp Blossom". I've told everyone I know about this cheese because I love it so much, it's my Lieblingsessen, or favorite food. I learned that Amazon Germany ships books in English to my city. I call my friends and family as much as I possibly can.

Austria isn't New Jersey, and I knew this when I decided to study abroad, but the longer I live in Graz, the more I learn to love this city and this country. I'm so glad that I can share my time in Graz with you all as I continue to feel more at home. Until next time, auf wiedersehen!
