The first time I took a combi, I was very nervous because I had no idea if I was in the right place, or at what time the combi would come. Luckily, the combi arrived only a few minutes later, so I did not have too much time to be anxious. After I boarded, I was squished in between people and was very hot because there was no air conditioning. It was a fun ride because I got to interact with many Chetumal locals and I got some awesome recommendations for the beach that I was going to that day. Now, when I ride combis, I am much less anxious because I know exactly what to expect. I also know that I will have the opportunity to meet more people and have some great conversations along the way!
Combis are very efficient, fitting up to 16 people at a time. This saves gas by combining that many trips into one vehicle! Also, combis represent the more collectivist culture that I have experienced in Mexico. People are always getting on and off, bringing new conversations with them.
