The biggest adjustment I had to make for eating in Spain was what time I eat. Like the United States, we eat breakfast (or desayuno) in Spain in the morning to start the day. Lunch (or comida), however, works a little differently because around 2:00 p.m. everyone goes home and has lunch with their families. Lunch is the biggest meal of the day and an important one too since this is the time for families and friends to get together over a great meal. Since lunch here happens a little later in the day, we usually eat dinner (or cena) later, too, typically around 9:00 p.m. Regardless of the meal or the time that it was eaten, sharing food together is an important part of Spansih culture because it is a time for catching up with friends and family. In this article, I am going to walk you through my experience with paella, a meal we eat about once a week in Granada.
