Travel News

One of my favorites was Trafalgar Square. This square is where many political demonstrations and protests take place in London, which makes it an important site. Beyond its political meaning, though, I thought the square looked really cool. It has Nelson's Column at the center, honoring Admiral Horatio Nelson who died in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, and four huge lion statues guard the column. On such a sunny day, the statues stood out clearly against the blue sky, impressing me with the grandeur of the city.

Other Travel News from this week:

Walking around London, I saw many black cabs driving around the city. These cabs are also called hackney carriages, and they were originally horse-drawn carriages. Along with looking cool, today's black cabs help shuffle people all across the city. Drivers of black cabs have to pass a test called The Knowledge, proving that they know London well enough to drive passengers to their location without looking at a map. Supposedly, The Knowledge is the hardest training course for taxicab drivers anywhere in the world!
