Hallo, wie geht's (Hello, how's it going)?
My name is Sascha Daniels, and I'm 24 years old. I'm originally from Washington, D.C., and I love living in big cities. Wherever there are tons of people, restaurants on every corner, and buses and cars throughout the streets, I feel right home! I went to college somewhere a bit quieter in West Virginia, right at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. Even though it's only three hours away from Washington, West Virginia is a very different place, overflowing with great natural beauty.
In college I majored in world languages, literature and linguistics, specifically focusing on German and Japanese. Because of the languages I studied, I had the chance to travel to Germany and Japan before I graduated earlier this year. Those were some of the best trips ever, and they definitely made me want to go back!
And that's what I did! I arrived back in Germany this August on a U.S. Fulbright grant to teach English at a local school in a city called Essen. That's where I live now, and it's been fantastic so far. Essen is a big city, so it reminds me a lot of Washington, D.C. There are also a lot of other big cities in the Ruhrgebiet (the area where I live) that are quite close, and I'm so excited to explore them all with you this year.
Are you ready to discover Germany with me?
