Transportation in Prague

Introduction:

In the U.S, transportation is pretty car-centric, meaning that most locations are either too far to be reached by walking or unable to reached easily without driving. We have buses and trains, like most European cities, but the number of highways in the U.S lends itself to a pretty car-oriented culture. Most people drive within cities as well as in more rural areas. However, in Prague, there are so many different options for getting around, most of which are even faster than driving!

How do people get around?:

In Prague, there are many options for travel around the city! The locals mostly choose one of four options: tram, metro, bus or walking. A tram is a type of electric bus that moves through the city on tracks above the ground. The metro is the same thing as what we'd call the subway, an underground train that you can hop on and hop off at any time. To get to the metro, you need to go to an escalator downstairs from the street to get to the station, whereas the tram stops are the same as bus stops, located on the side of the streets. Because Prague has busy roads and isn't a large city, these options, even walking, are sometimes faster than driving!

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I really enjoy the transportation here!
