Sauce for Breakfast?!

Introduction:

Breakfasts here in Bangalore have been quite an adventure! Usually I eat rice and some sauces. This week, I had the pleasure of eating dosas, which I explain below!

What food did I try?:

I ate dosas! It is similar to a pancake, only filled with cooked potatoes and sauce.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I was really happy to try dosas! A lot of the food I have tried has been very foreign to me. I liked dosa because it reminded me of pancakes. Some days, I go a whole day eating traditional Indian meals, a spicy adventure!

How is the food prepared?:

Dosas are prepared just like a pancake! Rice grain is ground into a flour, and water is added to make a batter. The batter is spooned onto a griddle or pan and cooked on both sides. Fillings are added and the dosa is folded in half and served!

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Rice is a staple food here in Bangalore, and the rice flour is grown locally. Indian food is closely tied to the local environment. Many foods like avocados or mangos are not available here out of season, and are not imported to Bangalore. Bangalore is in the center part of southern India, which also means that seafood isn't widely imported either!
