My Experience Eating Everything I Can Find In Morocco

Introduction:

Part of my study abroad experience is staying with a host family. At first, I was really hesitant about staying with a family that I didn't know, but now I cannot think about living anywhere else. My host mom makes me breakfast and dinner every day, and they are some of the best meals that I have ever had. I look forward to trying all the new things that she makes me, as well as all the things that are not available to me in the United States!

What food did I try?:

I am not shy about trying new foods, and I will try anything once. If I don't like it, I won't try it again. The strangest thing that I have tried in Morocco has to be the snails that vendors sell at the market. In other parts of the world, snails are a common thing that people eat and are considered a delicacy. You might know about escargot from France, but Morocco's snails are nothing like the French version.

Moroccan snails are sold in the marketplace by local vendors, and they are extremely popular with locals and tourists. Moroccans love to cook them with local spices, most notably cumin which has a very distinct smell. A bowl of snails costs about 10 Dirham or the equivalent of $1 (U.S. dollar) which includes about 20 snails per bowl. The snails are actually really good, kinda spicy and definitely slimy!
