Climate change is also a huge part of the environment and each year, this area either faces too much rain or not enough. While I was there, it was extremely rainy, which prevented people from gathering supplies that they needed to survive. The locals told me that they would rather have too much rain than not enough because, without rain, they could not gather their fruits from the orchards.
People have been adapting to the environment in the best ways the can. Some things that the locals have done to help adapt to the environment are to build deeper and deeper wells in order to save water when it doesn't rain. However, other locals are choosing to leave the area where their families have lived for generations because it is getting harder and harder to live there. The city has many more resources such as running water and medicine, but to leave the area would mean moving away from their families and the way of life that they are accustomed to. Climate change is harming how people live in rural areas and it is important for us to do everything we can to help stop it so that people can live where they have for generations.
