¡Hola a todos! Hello, everyone! My name is Selena Easley and I am 21 years old. I am a senior environmental studies, international studies, and Spanish triple major with a concentration in interfaith leadership studies at Washington & Jefferson College (W.&J.) right outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It's the home of the Steelers and the Pittsburgh Penguins! Although I have never been to Nebraska, I am so excited to be traveling to you virtually.
Growing up, I lived on a small farm, in a small town right outside of Pittsburgh. As a first generation college student, I did not have the family background for travel. I was actually the first person in my family to apply for a passport. During my first year of college, I won a competitive scholarship to travel to Germany and Poland. In Europe, I realized that nothing matters without culture, and that my life’s purpose is building bridges between different cultures. When I came back to college, I changed my major. I started looking for opportunities to engage with diverse communities and to work on building those bridges.
I was inspired to travel to Latin America after interning as an English teaching assistant with a local church, connecting my interests in language, culture and relationships.
