This is how my ISP went week by week.
Week 1:
To start off my ISP I travelled from Reykjavík to Akywayri by bus. Once I arrived to Akywayri I took the first week to get acclimated to my new surroundings, construct interview questions, and reach out to potential interview participants.
Week 2:
The second week I struggled to find interview participants. I went to public settings like the library and the local university. During this week I only conducted one interview that I ended up using in my research paper.
Week 3:
This was the most constructive week I had during my entire 5 week ISP journey. I conducted a total of 3 interviews, transcribed a total of 6 interviews, and started learning how to analyze my interviews.
Week 4:
I tried to find more interested interview candidates but it was unsuccessful. So I focused on starting to write my research paper and making a research presentation.
Week 5:
Continued to write my research paper and made some grafts based of my interviews. Meet with professors to look over my research paper and receive recommendations. Finished my research presentation and practiced with classmates.
Overall the entire ISP portion of my study abroad program helped me learn how my time may be spent if I decided to do a graduate program in the future. I learned that I may want to focus on the topic of weastwater in my future career. Finally I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to conduct research in my undergraduate career while abroad.
