What main languages are spoken here?:

English is the official language of Malawi, but there are four other languages spoken here. These are called Chichewa, Tonga, Yao and Tumbuka. In Lilongwe, Chichewa is most common.

What type of money is used here?:

Malawi uses the kwacha instead of the dollar. 730 kwacha equals one dollar. The bills are very colorful.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs 500 kwacha, or 75 cents. Soda is cheaper. A bottle of local cola (they don't have Coke here) is 300 kwacha, or 50 cents.

 

What was the best meal this week?:

My favorite meal was Greek food for dinner! I love hummus.

What music did I listen to this week?:

On Saturday night, I went to a jazz concert. The musicians were very good!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I ran a race with my friends! It was a 5K race, five kilometers long, or about 3.1 miles. It was for breast cancer awareness. My friend and I tied for third place.
