It was a special treat from my usual meals, and even better because I got to spend time with friends.
This week at work, I played country music because my counterpart Maun Mario likes it. I never listened to country music in the U.S., but now I’m getting used to it and even enjoy it! Everywhere I go in Timor-Leste, like on buses or minibuses, there’s always loud music playing, so it feels like the whole country has its own soundtrack.
The most fun activity this week was hiking with the Dili Saturday Walkers! It’s always great to get out into nature, breathe the fresh air and then relax while enjoying the beautiful view of the city. Hiking with friends makes it even better!
This week, I listened to a book while riding my bicycle—my favorite way to read! I’m listening to A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. Riding and listening makes the ideas feel even more alive as I watch the world go by.
This week I did some running! I’ve run six half marathons while living in Timor-Leste, and I like to keep training so I’m ready for the next race. Over the last three years, I’ve run half marathons in Taiwan, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Timor-Leste. Running is my way of exploring new places and staying active at the same time.
